Our Review of the PortaMEe Ergonomic baby carrier

The PortaMEe Child Hip Carrier demonstrates chic, utilitarian Prada-like style. The PortaMEe's unique combination of utility, convenience, comfort, and fashion set it apart from most other hip carriers.

With fashionable parents and caretakers in mind, the leather trimmed PortaMEe hip carrier brings form, function, and features together into one tight and light package. Baby rests snugly and comfortably right next to your body while clever pockets provide instant access to parent necessities: mobile phone, PDA, Blackberry, camera, and wallet.

The PortaMEe has an ergonomic design and built-in supports to reduce strain. A thick, honeycomb gel padded shoulder strap won't bite into your shoulder while you walk. There's also a flexible but reinforced orthopedic lumbar support system for your lower back that doubles as a storage bag with room for up to 3 large diapers and ointment.

It's natural to carry baby on your hip. Women in particular have more natural strength in their hips and legs, not the back. Front style carriers can put extra strain on your center and lower back. Women who have had C-sections find the PortaMEe to be the perfect solution to their child carrying needs.

Comparison

While the PortaMEe's C-section friendly design and sleek look sets it apart from the crowd, some parents may prefer the versatility of a multi-position carrier. The Ergo Baby Organic Baby Carrier works as a front carrier, back carrier, and hip carrier - perfect for caretakers who want to change-up how baby rides. Lik the PortaMEe, the ErgoBaby has handy pockets that help you go diaper bag-free on short-trips.

PortaMEe Rocks

We purchased the designer Portamee baby carrier over the Ergo. My wife really liked the way it looked - more streamlined and urban... I must say this time she was right. The quality is excellent. The carrier is easy to use and pretty comfortable give that our son Sol is already 11 months and a real buddha baby. I like that I can take him out for a good hour walk and leave the diaper bag at home. We both use it pretty frequently. She's happy to have the higher styled design and I'm pretty pleased with all the pockets and its simplicity. I was suprised at some of the other commentary which led me to wonder if they followed the directions and wore it properly. It's pretty simple and rather obvious. My only concern with the product is the extreme hot temps outside lately. So I would like to ask when will this portamee company come out with a summer breathable version? Otherwise, you would get 5 stars.

not very comfortable

I found the carrier difficult to strap on and could not put my child in it with all the buckles fastened, as the instructions say you should. The hip belt keeps getting twisted where it threads through the carrying pouch. The top strap rubs uncomfortable against my neck, no matter how I adjust it. Once the thing is fitted and the child is inside, it's reasonably okay. My child twists quite a bit, and I have to be careful he doesn't twist so much that he might fall out. Overall, it's not as comfortable as I thought, and I can't wear it more than twenty minutes or so.

Portamee Carrier

I love the portamee carrier. I have tried every other carrier on the market. Either they were too hippy dippy or an ace bandage!! Once I fit it properly ( I called the owners) I have not been able to take it off. It lets me avoid the stroller when I have an errand to run around town!! LOVE IT, I highly recommend it.

This carrier is great! If you are a mother in nyc then a carrier is a must. This one has far less strain on my lower back than the front carriers. The shoulder strap will start to hurt my shoulder after a while, but no more than a messenger style bag would. Plus it has extra gel padding in the strap which lessens the strain. I would much rather have an achy shoulder than an achy lower back. My son is a large 25 pound eight month old and I am able to carry him around just fine. The cell phone pocket is too small for my blackberry or even my motorola flip style phone. The lumbar pocket is generous though. I haven't tried other hip carriers, but I really think this one is excellent. And if you find most carriers to be cumbersome when you try to store them under the stroller or in the closet, this one has a nice neat carry bag for when it's not in use!

I got the Portamee as a Christmas gift from my inlaws. All I can say is "WOW"! Finally someone came out with an attractive and comfortable carrier for those bigger babies. Our daughter is almost 30 lbs and loves to be carried. This Portamee made travelling with our daughter so much easier. It got us through the airports and Disney World. Thank you!

I wouldn't be caught dead wearing a sling or hiking gear when just strolling around the city and park. This is a perfect carrier for those that choose to be diaper bag free. I popped 2 diapers in the back pocket along w some snacks and off we went. It is very comfortable when the waistband is worn high on the waist, not too loose or low (read the instructions) I would highly recommend it.
