Baby Carrier: Frog

Baby Carrier: Coqui Treefrog
(Eleutherodactylus coqui)

Oddly, these frogs' eggs totally skip the standard tadpole stage, and develop directly into tiny, fully-functional frogs - or "froglets.".

The dad guards the nest and keeps the eggs hydrated until they hatch – and then protects the froglets for their first days of life.

Bonus frog baby carrier!

Dendrobates pumilio and related poison dart frogs lay 3-5 eggs, hidden away in a leaf.

The male keeps the eggs hydrated for the next 10 days, by carrying water to them in his voice sac.

When they hatch, the mother carries the wiggly tadpoles to the water on her back, one by one! (picture)
