Baby Carrier: Wolf Spider (Hogna carolinensis)
|
Wolf Spiders don’t spin webs – they are constantly on the move. To keep their eggs safe, the mother wolf spider drags them around behind her in a silken sac for about a month. Once the eggs hatch, the baby spiders climb up on mom’s back – often more than 200 of them! They will continue to ride there for the next 2 weeks or so, until they’re large enough to hunt on their own. |
