Baby Carrier: Ringtail Opossum (Pseudocherius peregrinus)
|
Baby Ringtail Possums (called joeys) are born in pairs. Like most marsupials, the babies are hairless, tiny, and blind. They must find their way to the mother’s pouch as soon as they are born – there, they are protected and fed by their mother’s nipples. After 4 months in the pouch they emerge, and spend the next 2 months riding around on their mother’s back. |
