Baby Carrier: Sea Otter (Enhydra lutris)
|
Newborn Sea Otter babies, called pups, are born in the water and float like corks – but they cannot swim. A sea otter mother has to carry her pup on her stomach for several weeks, feeding, protecting, and grooming. Sea otters spend almost all their lives at sea, floating in social groups called “rafts” – often holding paws to stay together. |
