Baby Carrier: Loon

Baby Carrier: Loon
(Gavia immer
)

Loon chicks leave the nest a day or two after hatching, after which they will very rarely return to land again.

For the next 2 to 3 months, the fledgling loons follow their parents around, often riding on the back of either the father or the mother – safe from large predatory fish and turtles.

They leave their parents when they have learned to fly.
