Baby Carrier - Lemur

Baby Carrier:
Bamboo Lemur

(Hapalemur griseus)

Bamboo lemur mothers actually carry their young much less than other lemurs – in their native habitat, a dense bamboo thicket, predators are scarce and babies are often “parked” on a branch while the mother forages.

To transport a young infant, mothers mouth carry the infant, in the style of lions.

After two weeks, the baby is too large to be mouth carried, and want to ride on their mother.

However, she is usually reluctant to allow this – so the baby carrying tends to be done by juvenile siblings or the baby’s father.
