Baby Carrier: Human

Baby Carrier: Human
(Homo sapiens)

Human babies are the most developmentally immature mammals at birth, and require months of additional gestation.

Babies that are carried at least 3 hours a day cry less, develop more quickly, have better digestion, and are socialized earlier (learning facial expressions, verbal skills, and body language).

Human babies cannot cling to their mothers the way other primates can – it is thought that the development of sling baby carriers can be traced far back into our evolutionary pasts.

Modern human mothers have a wide variety of baby carrier options to keep their babies with them – from traditional baby slings to soft front carriers to heavy-duty baby backpack carriers.
