Baby Carrier:
Chimpanzee
(Pan troglodytes)
Infant chimps cling to their mother’s bellies for 3-6 months.
After that age, they begin to ride on her back instead, especially during travel.
As they get older, the young chimps spend more and more time on their own.
Back carrying does not stop until a baby chimp is weaned, when about four years old.
During this time, baby chimps learn much about finding food, complex social behaviors, and even tool use.
