Our Review of the Moby Wrap

The simple design of the Moby Wrap baby sling has essentially been around for hundreds of years. It's a simple piece of wide cotton that you just tie together - no straps to deal with, no buckles to figure out. Your baby's weight is distributed evenly. You use your entire back instead of having the full brunt just on one spot on your shoulders like conventional child carriers. Best of all, there are practically no limits to the ways your can carry your baby. Use your front, your hip, your back, it all works.

Your heartbeat and the warmth of your body against a child's will put them at total ease. It really has to be seen to be believed. Once your baby is secure and next to you, all the crying and fussing disappear.

The fabric itself can hold a child up to 45 lbs., though most parents feel more comfortable with kids 35 lbs. and under. It is completely machine washable. The Moby Wrap also comes with complete instructions that details nearly a dozen different carrying modes.

Good and Bad

The moby wrap is very comfortable and distributes my babies weight very effectively. I also like that my baby's thighs are supported in all of the holds instead of being dangled by her crotch. My only complaint is that after taking her in and out of it a couple of times, the wrap loosens a bit and you have to rewrap it. This isn't a problem at home but if you are in a dirty parking lot, there is no way to rewrap yourself without dragging it in the dirt. Overall its very comfortable and versatile but can be a little annoying to take on and off.

best carrier out there!

I have tried about 10 different carriers/slings in the past few years, and the moby wrap is BY FAR the most versatile and comfortable of them all! my baby loves this wrap, and it grows with them since it can be used with so many positions. It takes a little bit of practice at first to get the hang of the basic wrap but after a few times it's very easy. I HIGHLY recommend this to any mom!

Working With Moby

I love the moby wrap. I have about an hour that my newborn comes to work with me during the day until Daddy can come and pick her up. All I have to do is bundle her in the wrap and I am free to work on the computer and answer phones. I also love taking the wrap to the store when I am shopping. It makes it easy to just go with my newborn and four year old and not have to haul around a carseat or have to take a hugh stroller to move in the aile way. The moby never hurns my back and it is very breathable fabric. With so many holds and such a decent price it makes it a great buy.

Skeptical at first

Reviewer: kajsa dufner , erie, colorado Date: February 23, 2008
I really thought this was awful at first. My child screamed every time I put him in the cradle hold so I gave up on it for a couple months. He's now 10 weeks and this is a gem. It's easy to put on, despite looking like crazy origami wrap! The key to putting it on is to keep the front part bunched up (the logo part) If you spread it over the belly to bring around the back it becomes too loose, and offers minimal support. But if you keep it bunched up in front to put on, then spread over the baby once he's in, it is the most comfortable carrier and my son loves it. I have several different slings and front carriers, but this is by far the most comfortable for me and my baby.

Excellent for heavy babies and reflux

With my son, his pudgy legs made using a front carrier very difficult. Now at almost 30lbs I can still use the Moby and not feel back pain. When he was new and had severe reflux, I wasn't allowed to put him down after feedings. My solution was to put him in the wrap. He loved it and often fell asleep in it, while I was able to move around and get done what I needed to do. It was a life and sanity saver.

So very comfortable!

No structured carrier could ever compete with the comfort of the Moby. The way the fabic wraps around your body and distributes the weight from your shoulders down across your entire torso is amazing. They don't call it a "wrap" for nothing -- don't be intimidated by this l-o-n-g piece of fabric. By the third or fourth time you wrap it onto yourself, you'll find it becomes second nature. I loved how I could put this wrap on before I left the house and then put my son on and off of my body as we went about our errands for the day. Being able to wear the carrier through the day like a second shirt is very time-saving. In fact, it does very much look and feel like a piece of clothing rather than a baby carrier -- I've even been asked if I have tucked my son away inside my shirt!! The Moby is so versatile, too, with lots of carrying positions possible.

Comfortable. Versatile. Moby.

Look no further - this is the best carrier for its comfort (for mom with its full-back and waist weight dispersion, and for baby with a wide spread of fabric as a seat) versatility (side, back, front, facing in, facing out, nursing, sleeping with full head support, even twins!) and good fabric choices (woven panels for heavier children, fleece for extra warmth, or silks for more style and added support). All styles come with 100% cotton where the wrap crosses the wearer's back and shoulders - which is better than synthetics for ventilation. I've found an online collaboration of helpful videos for wrapping techniques that are better photographed than the instruction booklet the moby comes with. It does take a 4 or 5 times before you feel really comfortable with the technique- but it's worth the effort!

I love it. After you learn how to tie it on yourself, you can vertually carry your baby any way. My daughter loves it.Also it does not hurt your back.
