Our Review of the Kelty Kangaroo baby carrier

Along with their outstanding line of baby backpack carriers, Kelty offers the Kelty Kangaroo, an infant carrier designed for carrying an infant child up to 28 lbs. The Kangaroo works as a newborn carrier with your baby facing backwards with her head and neck supported by the pack. Once your child is able to support her own head, simply turn her around to provide a clear view of the world ahead.

Benefits for Mom & Dad

With the Kangaroo infant carrier from Kelty, you carry your child marsupial-style - up close and intimate. Your growing baby will be totally secure and able to feel your warmth and heartbeat, while you maintain a near total freedom of movement. For your comfort, the waistbelt and shoulder straps of the Kangaroo carrier are thickly padded and fully adjustable.

Convenience: The Kangaroo is easy to take on and off without waking a sleeping baby, thanks to the simple clamp attachments and strap adjustments. Unlike the smaller Kelty Wallaby, the Kangaroo comes equipped with an ample "pouch" on the front with a zippered enclosure, and a smaller storage pocket on the waistbelt that's just the right size for a mobile phone. It is also equipped with a privacy shield for nursing mothers.

Comfort: The suspension system of the Kangaroo resembles a backpack, with smaller straps criss-crossing in the back. The Kangaroo distributes weight from your shoulders to your hips, taking the stress off your neck and shoulders.

Benefits for Babe

Child carriers are perhaps the world's oldest means of transportation, and carrying your newborn or infant in a front carrier like the Kelty Kangaroo promotes their health, happiness, and sense of security. The Kangaroo provides constant contact between parent and child, creating a sense of intimacy and providing your child with a raised perspective - two things a stroller or pram simply cannot do.

Comfort: The Kangaroo works as an inward facing carrier for the period before your child is able to support his own head and an outward facing carrier once his neck muscles are fully developed. The padded cockpit of the Kelty Kangaroo is fully adjustable, able to fit a child up to 28 pounds (roughly 2 1/2 years old), and includes leg adjustment straps to reduce the size of the leg openings. There is also a set of toy loops to keep hanging toys within easy reach.

We couldn't live without it!

We used the kangaroo nearly every day until our daughter was almost 1 - then again with daughter #2 - and the pack still looks good. The cross-back and around your waist design is strong, secure and keeps your back from hurting. A friend of mine had her baby fall out of another, popular brand of front pack - not a chance with the Kangaroo. The rain shield was great when the weather turned on long walks. We nicknamed the extra pouch the "pro pak" because you can fit a diaper, some wipes and a onesie in it - and you're good to go (without lugging a stroller or a diaper bag). Freedom! Perfect for plane trips, neighborhood walks, hiking - or even doing stuff around the house.
